BIO

Painter, draftsman, sculptor. In 1967 he moved to Belo Horizonte where he joined the Guignard School in 1969. He studied architecture at the Federal University of Minas Gerais from 1972 to 1975.

In 1974, he exhibited at the 5th University Art Salon, in Belo Horizonte, and received a scholarship to study in France. He lives in Paris between 1975 and 1979 and attends the École Nationale Louis Lumière, where he studies photography, and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts. In Paris, he discovered American abstract painting, Russian constructivism and had contact with the work of the French group Support-Surface.

He returned to Brazil in the 1980s, lived in Rio de Janeiro, where he entered the printmaking course at the School of Fine Arts at UFRJ. In that decade, he began to work with geometric shapes and wood, in which he applied pigments obtained from the land collected in Minas Gerais. In 1985, he was awarded the prize for travel abroad by the National Art Foundation - Funarte. He spent six months as a resident artist at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art Décoratif in Limoges-Aubusson, France.

His work is developed in abstract and geometric compositions of great visual impact; they are works in which painting is one of the constituent elements and which seek to act in the real space, without seeking the figurative. It is a work that is located in a border region between painting and sculpture, the plane and the three-dimensional.
